Hi, I'm Max.
I'm a junior lecturer on a temporary teaching contract and I'm trying to raise funds to support my research in 2025/2026.
Basically, I have 2 books to complete on the Downing Street Chief-of-Staff. To be clear, this is not party political research.
The books are:
1) Short book on what the Downing Street Chief-of-Staff does and how they do it. This is for a publisher who specialises in publishing research that is relevant to real-world practice.
2) Long book on the history of the role from 1997-2022 (Tony Blair to Boris Johnson). This for a different publisher, who specialise in public-focused books that help people get to the bottom of how our government works (or doesn't).
These have delivery dates of Summer 2026 (with some wiggle room). To do both books justice and find the time to get them written, I'd like to raise c.£1000.
Any money raised would be used on:
- booking a couple of trips to archives or similar, so that I can stay over for a few nights and get my head solely into writing;
- travel to and from research interviews (I'm currently interviewing former chiefs-of-staff, advisers and ministers for the work);
- buying an upgraded dictaphone for these interviews;
- incidentals (eg. office stationery for storage of archival copies and research materials);
- travel to and from outreach for my research (eg. conferences, history societies, etc) to give my work as wide an audience as possible.
To be clear, I am not using any of the money raised here for personal, non-research related, expenses.
Whilst, clearly, I can't offer you anything in return, I will try to acknowledge the kindness of strangers and benefactors in my final books.
Many thanks, in advance, for taking the time to read this and for any amount, however small, you can donate.
