The Ten Commandments in front of Morton County Courthouse-I am reassured!
I am Brian O'Keefe, from Santa Fe New Mexico and am 63 years old. I will be the beneficiary of funds raised through this effort.

As part of my efforts in human and planetary rights/conditions, I had seen and heard stories and so traveled in my small RV to see what was going on up at Standing Rock . I arrived there on November 8, 2016 and as can be seen in the photo the weather was unseasonably fair. As part of my efforts I also delivered $4,000.00 in cash donations as well as several thousand dollars in supplies.
By serendipity I arrived and stayed parked next to an Army surplus tent that housed a delegation form the Cheyenne River Sioux. I gave that group, led by Oscar High Elk (my buddy in the photo and the family man with his wife and children), the donations and eventually spent 5 weeks parked next to the tent. I ran many supply runs for propane gas, material supplies from Menard's, Home Depot, etc., in my RV. Doing this cost me a great amount but I would and will do it again in a heartbeat.

Being a member of Amnesty International I felt and feel that it was important that I bear witness to the actions that occured there and what I witnessed was chilling, at best.
I attended an action, a protest march, along a road outside of Mandan (neighbor to Bismarck) to demand action to counter the lack of legal action taken in cases of violence against indigenous women. It was at that action that I was arrested in a mass arrest of 27 people of all types as well as there being vehicle impoundments with exhorbitant fees ($700/night!). I am sure that I was the oldest arrested. You can see some of my injuries from my takedown by police but I have others also.

As a result of the arrest I was forced to stay far beyond my intentions, though I am grateful of the added connections and understanding that I gained over that time. This resulted and as I defend myself will continue to result in significant sums of money.
I am not requesting funds to offset attorney fees but to help offset the costs I incurred having to stay there for an additional 3 weeks and the upcoming costs of returning and having to pay to get back there as well as food and lodging, car rental, etc.
As I have already incurred several thousand dollars in costs that are on credit cards, and will inccur very shortly as my case proceeds, donations to my cause cannot come too soon.
Supporting me by donating would mean that there is an acknowledgement of my need but also that we, the people, are willing to either put ourselves out there for worthy and momentous causes such as I believe is this, but also that if we cannot physically act we can at least help to support those who are willing for causes we believe in.
Knowing that I have your support would mean a great deal to me as I am further drawn into a growing community of all people that recognize that we must speak out in whatever manner that we can. For that I would be eternally grateful.
