About a year ago, my lifelong friend, Daisy was diagnosed with lung cancer. Daisy is one of the best people I know! She is selfless, funny, compassionate, caring, and overall, a wonderful human I love to be around! Hearing Daisy’s diagnosis made me wonder, “why her?” Not that I ever think that anyone should hear the dreaded cancer diagnosis, but why is it the world’s best people? How is another human that I love going to have to fight for her life?
Daisy is a wife who married her high school sweetheart (David ) and they went on to have 5 beautiful kids. She’s that mom who can do #allthethings - the things that make you a little envious of her natural abilities to be #supermom! Whether she’s whipping out those snacks you see on Pinterest that you yourself could never recreate, braid hair in ways that would blow your mind, or work on beautiful cards that are the most beautiful on your mantle during the Holidays, she’s always working on something for others. …. THIS is the thing that I love the most about my friend, her heart that truly cares for others! Let me tell you how I know her heart….

When my mom became ill and had to undergo 6 months of intense chemo, Daisy was the first friend to reach out to see how she could help. She had already researched what would help and she signed up to be my mom’s “chemo Angel. “ At the time, my mind was a bit overwhelmed and I couldn’t grasp what this meant. Then I went to pick my mom up for surgery to put in her port and get her 1st chemo dose, and I saw it firsthand. Daisy had hand made her chemo bag (see pics) with this beautiful image of a character that looked very much like my adorable mom. The bag was adorned with “fight like a girl” and her cancer type color. This bag was full of things to do during her time in the chemo bay and sweets that actually taste ok for a cancer patient.

I was literally in awe at how much thought had gone into this! All while Daisy is managing her household, supporting the startup of her husband’s chiropractic practice, how in the heck would she have time to do this? The small surprises continued to come in the mail for my mom and for me, it was truly a gift that I will cherish always. It’s the little thoughts from others that truly keep you going when you aren’t sure if you can put one foot in front of the other and that’s why I’ telling you this story now….
Daisy is tired. She’s been thru surgery, chemo and is now undergoing a new trial for her cancer. When I had the chance to connect via phone the other day, my heart broke a little bit just hearing how this has taken a toll on her and her family. I had no idea that they were struggling to make ends meet, but wasn’t surprised. I know firsthand how expensive these treatments, hospital stays, etc. are, even with the best medical insurance this wouldn’t not affect a family’s ability to make ends meet. Not only that but with 5 young children and a new business, this has hit a point where they need help….
My friend Daisy, would be the last person to ask for help, but the first to offer it. That’s why I’m happy she’s finally allowed me to post this GoFundMe. Brion and I will continue to help as we can, and I hope that you can too. There are plenty of bills that need to be paid, cars and appliances needing to be fixed, and basics needed for their family. Whether you’ve experienced hardship or not, I know that I have a beautiful community surrounding me, so I’m hoping to lean into it to help my friend. Whether you are donating, or sharing her story so it picks up traction, thank you! She said to me the other day “you know I can never pay you back.” My answer was, “yes you will, when you kick cancers ass!”
