Hi Everyone! 

Our family is trying to help Juan Garcia Jr. (pictured) get help with rent and other medical needs while in recovery following surgery.

Juan, age 23, was in a traumatic event which ended with Juan getting shot three times when he was on his way to get food after a long night of work with one of his co-workers. Juan was transferred to Carle Foundation Emergency Department in Urbana, IL on 8/21/2021 at approximately 3:00 AM.

(CAUTION - specific detail below)

Juan was driving when a pedestrian decided to walk out in front of him which ended up getting hit by the vehicle. When Juan stopped the car, another male subject approached my brother and started shooting him and the coworker in the passenger seat. Juan was hit at close proximity in the chest, groin, and also attempted to prevent his coworker from getting shot which resulted in him getting struck with another gunshot wound to his hand.

Due to the gunshot wounds, my brother had to undergo surgery which went well, thankfully. He is still experiencing a lot of pain. Unfortunately, he is uninsured due to him not being able to afford medical insurance. Which also means a lot of medical expenses. Juan is a very caring and driven young man, that loves art and poetry. He expresses his feelings and passion through art and music.

Unfortunately, due to a lot of recent medical conditions, he has been struggling to pay rent, food and medical bills, especially now, by adding another unplanned medical visit and the inability to work. 

Juan will not be able to return to work until he is cleared to do so, which is not foreseen in the near future. That being said, rent will not go away.

As his family, we are doing what we can to help, but also, asking for your help with a little contribution even if it is $2 or $5. The money will only be accessed by Juan once he is released from the hospital.
