Edit* this is the second fundraiser I started because my first one got spammed and I got scammed. I managed to recover most of my losses, but not everything. I was hesitant to make my profile public again because of this.
Hello, my name is Gabriel Harris, and I'm reaching out because I find myself at a crossroads, seeking support for a journey I never thought I would have to take. Life has thrown me challenges, but today, I'm reaching out to ask for your help to overcome them. I currently don't have funding or coverage and that's why I need your support.
My Journey:
For those who don't know I'm a C2- C3 complete vented quadriplegic. I'm permanently on a breathing life-support system. I was in a fluke diving accident in 2008, when I was house boating at Shuswap Lake and I jumped off the boat feet first holding a kids flotation device that hit me on my chin rendering me instantly paralyzed. I drowned and sunk to the bottom of the lake and it took two of my friends to pull me out. [the moral is be careful of kids flotation devices] Thanks to my friends quick thinking I was revived and airlifted to VGH. I was in the hospital for five months and then GF strong for two months recovering. I had just become a licensed RMT two months prior to my accident. Everything was taken away in an instant. My professional life gone, my social life changed forever, and my self dependence disappeared. I know everybody is going through something, but my situation is making it really hard to get ahead. I'm at breakeven after paying my stay at my care-home. I didn't qualify for extended healthcare or coverage because, as they put it, I was "too broken." Yet, despite facing adversity, I am determined to rewrite my story. I am driven to rebuild, not just my physical well-being, but also my dreams and aspirations.
The Challenges:
I am fundraising for three critical aspects of my life: primarily a power chair, therapy, and some tools for my independence.
* In 2014, my wheelchair reached the end of its journey. Its battery and parts are obsolete, leaving me without the essential means of mobility. I have my eyes set on a Permobil Sip'n Puff Power chair, a remarkable device that not only meets my mobility needs but also provides the freedom to recline. Unfortunately, the price tag is a staggering $54,600 Canadian, not including tax, [$55,00 + $15,000 [tax] almost $70,000] [please look at the invoice below], and without extended healthcare or coverage, I am relying on the generosity of kind hearts like yours.
How You Can Help:
Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to me. Even a fraction of the total amount will bring me closer to a power-chair, my self-sufficiency goals, and the physical therapy sessions that will make a significant impact on my life.
Your support is not just a financial contribution; it's a gesture of hope, compassion, and belief in the resilience of the human spirit. Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and I appreciate any support you can offer.
With gratitude and love,
Gabriel Harris
