Ahmaud Arbery was out taking a jog when he was murdered. I run every day, and one of the reasons it is such a worthwhile and satisfying experience is because I do not have to fear for my safety. The thought “I could be gunned down in the street” has never crossed my mind, and did nothing to earn that peace of mind. I get that peace of mind because I am white. Ahmaud Arbery deserves justice. His family deserves peace.
This Saturday I am going to #RunwithMaud, and I'm going to run a quarter-mile for every 10 dollars we can raise for the Southern Poverty Law Center. I'll run 10 miles, I'll run a marathon, whatever we raise together. I can't stand idle as black lives are taken and as white supremacy continues to destroy this country. Join me in doing something.
