My name is Donovan Johnson and I’m starting this GoFundMe account to help raise enough funds to replace my mom’s missing, rotten and chipped teeth. 

In whole my mom is not only the most selfless and caring person I’ve ever met, but she has this unwavering ability to continue to stay hopeful no matter how hard times get for her and my dad, physically, mentally and financially. She would give you the shirt off of her back if it were snowing out or the shoes off of her feet without a second thought just because that’s the kind of woman she is. She deserves something nice be done for her after the decades of pain and fighting she’s had to endure. Unfortunately, she needs new teeth for many reasons and my parents just aren’t in a place financially to replace them whatsoever.

Now to give this story some context, my mom has been very ill since I was young, yet that never changed how hard she worked to give me an exceptional childhood! When I was about 7 or 8 years old she had a back fusion surgery go wrong, which lead to a potential malpractice suite from which she ended up not moving forward with because she did not want to be the reason the surgeon’s practice go bankrupt. In short, the hardware used in her fusion was not FDA approved and it ended up in a huge infection which then lead to permanent nerve damage in her right foot which then lead to her relentless neuropathy which then lead to an unwarranted need of pain medication therapy that has essentially not only made it damn near impossible for her to wear a shoe without the pain in her foot being unbearable, but too the side affects of the medication she is required and needing to take daily is legitimately rotting the teeth out of her head. 

In addition to the slew of medical catastrophes she’s faced her entire life, the most recent is a digestive issue from which she has been hospitalized over 3 times in the past year due to intestinal irritations and eruptions. Because of the lack of teeth she has, she is unable to fully chew, which means she is unable to fully digest her food which is then in turn causing all of theintestinal issues. Outside of her not being able to enjoy the food she eats, she now is restricted to such a bland diet due to the dental and intestinal issues. Now, eating has become a chore vs the enjoyment that it use to be.

As a man or woman I’m sure we all know how insecure it would make us to have multiple missing teeth, but for it to have been the product of something that was completely out of her control is just unfair and breaks my heart. That’s why I am starting this, because she deserves to feel as pretty on the outside as she is on the inside and most importantly, because getting her new teeth will help with her digestive issues and help relieve 1 of the many illnesses and sources of pain she already has to deal with daily.

She really does deserve this and for so many years of sacrificing, living with chronic pain and still continuing to wake up every morning, putting a smile on her face regardless of how embarrassed she is of the lack of teeth and thank God for another day on this earth is worthy of so much more than what’s being asked.
