Help Crystal Beat Cancer!

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to ask for your help and support during a difficult time. As many of you may know, Crystal was first diagnosed with late-stage Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2021 and underwent chemotherapy. After a successful round of treatments, the cancer was thought to be in remission. Unfortunately, a recent scan has shown that cancer has returned and Crystal has begun an even more grueling high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant (also known as a bone marrow transplant) at a hospital in Boston. This treatment is expected to last for 6 or more months.

 

As a single mother of two young boys, Vincent (age 12) and Domenic (age 10) the financial impact of this treatment will be significant. In addition to medical bills and transportation costs, Crystal will also be facing costs related to rent, oil heating, gas, car insurance, and other unplanned expenses that may arise during her treatment. Since this cancer is a pre-existing condition, her insurance provider will not provide the type of support that she will require during this time. As a result of the frequent daytime appointments, Crystal has had to take an unpaid leave of absence at her job, despite her desire to continue working throughout the treatment. 

The stem cell transplant is a crucial part of Crystal's treatment, and it has the potential to be life-saving. This stem cell transplant involves replacing the damaged stem cells in her bone marrow with healthy stem cells. Combined with high-dose chemotherapy, this can help her body to produce healthy blood cells and improve the chances of successful treatment. However, this lengthy process can be grueling and can leave Crystal feeling weak and fatigued. It may also affect her ability to work and care for her family during the duration of treatment. Crystal’s treatments are scheduled weekly in Boston, nearly 1 hr and 20 mins from where she lives. While we are thrilled that some of the best doctors in the country will be supporting her care, the frequent trips and potential need for extended stays at the hospital will further affect travel expenses and childcare needs.

 

If you know Crystal, you know she is one of the strongest, most courageous women, with a wicked sense of humor, and a protective and loving soul. Crystal has always been there for her loved ones, and now we want to be there for her, Vincent, and Dominic. Any contribution you can make to help cover the costs of her expenses and support her family during this time would be greatly appreciated.
