UCR Summer English Program 2020

The University of Costa Rica in San Ramon for the past few years has offered a free preparatory course for freshman English majors who have a low proficiency level. This course helps the students to increase their vocabulary, reinforce and expand their grammar, and most importantly improve their oral communication skills. The course, itself, is free, however, these students struggle economically to find the $5 a day to take the bus round trip. This year we have 15 students who qualified for the preparatory course. Some students come from extreme poverty and their families live on as little as $200 a month.  I was heartbroken to hear that they would not be able to participate due to their economic situations.  I would like to be able to offer each student a $20 a week travel stipend, buy their course materials, and provide a small snack each day. Please help me to make this opportunity a reality! Thank you!
