Upper Credit Humane Society Feline Comfort Cages

Feline housing has evolved dramatically in the last decade.

Shelter medicine Veterinarians have led the research in this area because of the challenge shelters face with the frequent occurrences of upper respiratory infections in felines.  Although stays for the cats are far shorter in the shelter setting, the cats benefit from many low-stress practices associated with this new type of cages.

We are seeking your help in securing 3 banks of NEW Shor-Line Comfort Cages for the cats at the Upper Credit Humane Society.

Thanks to the generosity of a donor, the Upper Credit Humane Society was able to purchase our first bank of Shor-Line Comfort Cages  in October 2020. The cages were placed in our intake room, where cats new to the shelter environment are isolated from the other animals , until they can be assessed by our vet and treated for any ailments. This separate area also allows the cats time to safely adjust to their new surroundings.
Giving cats more housing space is one of the cornerstones of the new sheltering guidelines. More space , ideally a 30 inch wide X 30 inch high cage , allows the cats more choice to exhibit natural feline behavior.

Double compartment housing is the preferred standard: one area for defecation and second , separate area for living area.
The litter area should be tall enough to allow correct posturing for defecation. This decreases stress at a time when cats feel most vulnerable.  A polycarbonate clear band at eye level on the front door of the cage gives the feline an unobstructed view. The durable stainless-steel grill at the top and bottom of the door provide good air flow.  A durable, quiet latch built into panel side protects curious paws and the stainless-steel latch is lockable.
