Pikes Peak Robotics (PPR), in conjunction with AFCEA, is proud to support the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Senior Design Team, Sound of Crickets. In this program, students in an MAE senior design course are working with local high school students to build a custom experimental payload that has been selected by the NASA RockSat-C program for a launch in June of 2025 from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility.
The design for this year investigates the effects of space flight on fertilized cricket eggs protected by a custom-designed Environmental Control Chamber (ECC) as a potential solution to self-sustaining sources of protein for long-term human space inhabitants/explorers. In this first of its kind experiment, the design team is seeking funds to support their travel to the NASA Wallops Flight Facility to execute their mission and convene with other students from across the nation as they collaboratively launch their experiments past 100 km above Earth's surface in a modified sounding rocket. Please support their trip to execute this mission by contributing.
