Help Chloe Walk Comfortably Again
Donation protected
Well, today I didn’t receive great news from the doctor for my sweet Chloe girl. In the autumn of last year, Chloe tore the cranial cruciate ligament in her back left leg. This ligament is responsible for keeping the shin bone and the thigh bone in place in order to stabilize the knee joint. The orthopedic surgeon recommended trying physical therapy, acupuncture, and laser therapy before undergoing what is called a TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) surgery. We started treatment in the fall of 2023. Chloe has been doing super well and has even stabilized the knee joint without surgical intervention. About a week or two ago she began limping and not bearing any weight on her leg. The doctor wasn’t sure why she would still be in pain considering how stable her knee is. We tried physical therapy, acupuncture, and laser therapy again only for Chloe to not improve at all. Today, we saw the doctor and believe that though her knee is stable, there has been damage to the meniscus within the knee. The only treatment for a meniscus injury in dogs is surgery. Typically the meniscus is evaluated during a TPLO and is taken care of during that time. So basically, we didn’t evade surgery at all regardless of the stabilized knee. Chloe will require surgery to walk comfortably. If we do not move forward with surgery, she will be in constant pain anytime she tries to use her back left leg. The surgery she needs is about $4,500. As most pet owners know, payment is due when services are rendered and there are no payment plans with the veterinary office we will have to use. Pet insurance does exist but works backwards compared to human insurance (meaning services are paid in full and then insurance companies might reimburse depending on the service.) Which brings us to why I am making this. I absolutely hate that we are having to ask for financial help with Chloe’s treatment but there is no other way. She will need to have the surgery as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the meniscus. I feel awful that my poor girl has to endure any of this, no animal ever deserves it. If you are able to help in any way, those who love my sweet girl greatly appreciate it and it will mean more to me than you could ever know. Anything helps, even if it’s just a share. Thank you for reading and helping my best friend <3
