UC Davis Baja SAE 2016-17

Hello! The Baja SAE team at UC Davis is a multidisciplinary group of students that designs and builds an off road race car capable of traversing rough terrain. While our team is primarily composed of Mechanical Engineering students we also have English, Materials Science, Political Science, and Aerospace Engineering students that add a tremendous breadth of knowledge to the team.
For the past 6 years we have pushed the boundaries of conventional Baja designs with the hope of performing even better at the yearly Baja competition. Building a state of the art off road vehicle is by no means inexpensive and in particular most of our budget this year went into designing and building the team's first custom gearbox! High development and machining costs left the team with little money that could cover the cost of taking 12 students and all of our equipment to competition in Gorman, CA this year. With competition at the end of April we have only a few short weeks to raise enough money to transport our team members and equipment to competition and compete against over 100 other teams from universities in the US and around the world.
Going to competition in the spring brings all of the hardwork and time our members have spent over the past 8 months to fruition. Many of our members continually dedicated 20+ hours a week to the Baja team while still balancing their school work and personal responsibilities. Not going to competition would be crushing to say the least after so much hardwork was put into this year's car to make it the best overall design that the team has ever produced.
Since its inception the Baja SAE team at UC Davis has been more than an opportunity for students at Davis to gain hands on experience and apply engineering principles. The team's main purpose has been to instill professional qualities in its members that will benefit them in their future careers. Qualities including public speaking, group communication, leadership, project planning, and fiscal responsibility enable Baja alumni to excel at their respective companies and make a greater impact on the world than with a college education alone. If you are able please help fund the Baja SAE team so we can continue to nurture the growth of students at UC Davis!
