Dear family, friends, Liech Bentiu, South Sudanese Community and all other Communities at large.

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the death of Angelena NyaKuok khok Tiep (Nyakouk or Short-Khok). She was only 56 years young. She was a mother, yet a father to 4 sons (Longa (LG), Jal, Mathor and Mauia) and also a grandmother to her granddaughter, an aunt, a sister to many and a loving best friend to many more. She brightens the lives of so many with her sense of humor and carrying heart. Nyakouk was diagnosed with Lupus and while she suffered with her condition, she also was diagnonesed with stage 5 kidney failure in her last moments with us. However, within the last 3 weeks, she has been critically ill after contracting Covid-19. She fought the Covid-19 for her life in Frankston ICU Covid Ward for 22 days.

This has been incredibly difficult on the entire family and with Covid added to her suffering, the hospital did not allow visitors during this difficult time leading to her passing. Those of you that knew her, knew that she was a fighter, she fought very hard and passionately till her last breath. Even though we knew death isn’t inevitable, we were not prepared. Additionally, we were not prepared for the financial burden that comes along with funeral services and burial.

As a result, while the family is processing and grieving this enormous loss, we are reaching out to the public for financial help, to aid with her funeral and sending her body back home. The money will be used to pay for all funeral costs to ensure she gets the farewell she deserves.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Short-Khok, and for even considering donating. With her pure heart, she touched so many lives, she loves you without knowing you. Only people that knew her would understand and believe in this statement, she loves everyone unconditionally. With her chronic condition, she would take others’ burden/problems and prioritized them as her own and she would give you the ear/time and you would feel heard, understood, and loved.

We want to honor her life and celebrate her life, please support us in this difficult time.

We know she’s in a better place now, and that heaven truly gained an ANGEL.
