UBC MASJID INITIAL COSTS

Allah has revealed to us in surah Hadid ayat 18 that, “Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allah a goodly loan - it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.” And Allah’s Messenger, on whose name be peace, said, “The believers shade on the day of reserruction will be his charity.” (Tirmidhi)

Brothers and Sisters, on behalf of the Muslims of the University of British Columbia ("UBC") and the wider Point Grey area of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where there is no Masjid despite a heavy muslim presence and rented spaces for Juma salah with interfaith meditation spaces used  for 5 daily salah (or sometimes outside on the dirt),  I am requesting that Sadaqa (voluntary charity) be given to enable us to secure the initial funds required for the legal trust account for our Masjid project at UBC.

The Muslims on the UBC campus and in Point Grey have been meeting and can attest to, the prayer space situation being precarious and unsolidified for the Muslims at the worlds top research institute. Despite having an endowment that is larger than some countries GDP, and multi-million dollar state of the art building around, the Muslims are literally being left outside in the cold during Juma, having to walk over 20 minutes from our classes to a shared "multi-faith room" for the five salah, versus a designated UBC Masjid which can accommodate our regular halaqas, islamic affairs and a lack of accredited people of Islamic knowledge within access. Our respected Christian and Jewish family have multiple of Churches  and Jewish spaces (with land leases) on campus, a building designated to Jewish life, and a christian college all within walking distance from the heart of the Point Grey campus UBC.

 
To help fill this void, a team of volunteer Muslims have come together in-order to address this necessity for the ummah and wider UBC community however they need our  sadaqa support to reach the next step in this project which is having legal representation for works toward CRA compliance (the other faith communities where also only able to secure their buildings under an official charity designation which resulted in up to 99 year land leases at Point Grey Vancouver and also have lawyers). 


All of the funds raised here inshaAllah will go directly towards the legal trust fund account that will be put towards the outstanding legal fees needed to secure both incorporation and charity status for the Muslims at UBC so that some land and property can be given for the upliftment of the Muslim condition at UBC. Lastly I would like to request from you and your loved ones to keep this project of a Masjid facility at UBC in your Dua's inshAllah. In a Hadith from the beloved messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise”. Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 450 & Sahih Muslim 533.

 

We must also  remember the Sahih Hadith of Allah's Messenger, on whose name be peace, who said "Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no veil between it and Allah." - And thus we as Muslim students at UBC acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ first nations
