HELP "DJEMA" KEEP HER FAMILY SAFE

A message from "Djema":
"There are no words I can use to express my gratitude for your generosity and support. Your financial support will help me and my family take the necessary steps towards making sure my son can continue to be the talented athlete he is and become someone you all will be proud of. More importantly your prayers, support and encouragement have strengthened my faith in community and that means a lot to me.

There are many translations for this Southern African word, Ubuntu, but I will use this one: " I am because you are". I would not be able to see where to start if all of you did not come through as a community.

On a recent spring day, “Djema’s” son ‘T.’ became a victim of urban violence. We are protecting their identity to ensure their safety, but are asking you to help us help their family.  T. has been our close friend, a talented teammate, and a special member of our Jamaica Plain Youth Soccer community for many years. Hospitalized since the end of April, T. is now awaiting another surgery to repair the damage done to his lungs by a bullet. While doctors and hospital staff work towards our friend's physical recovery, his mother is on unpaid leave so that she can care for her son and his four siblings through this crisis.  However, even after T. recovers from his critical injuries, as the doctors expect he will, T. faces an even bigger risk.  We believe his personal safety will be in real jeopardy if he returns to his current home.  Therefore, we are reaching out to the broader community to help Djema relocate her family to a safer neighborhood, something she just cannot afford to do on her own. Please help our friend to grow up without having to worry about  street violence. All children and teenagers need a safe and secure place to call home.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 towards relocation expenses to move to a safer neighborhood and also to help Djema obtain reliable transportation as her current vehicle has broken down beyond repair. If you want to help a talented, sweet, struggling teenage boy and his family escape further violence, please donate now as they are in urgent need of support.

In gratitude and in solidarity,

Coach Chris, Players, and the Jamaica Plain Youth Soccer Community
