Hello, everyone! I’m not one to often ask for help. However, when asked, I am quick to offer not only my assistance, but also any tools or assets at my disposal. I am posting on GFM because I now need your support in establishing a career that doesn’t require heavy use of my voice. I am seeking $7,000 in financial assistance to provide the initial startup cost of a Real Estate Home Inspection Business.
As many of you know, in 2011 I was diagnosed with stage 4A throat cancer. Once the cancer was discovered I was referred to the Stanford University Head and Neck Cancer Program. I cannot praise their staff enough regarding the treatment I received there. I have now been cancer-free for almost four years, and I am grateful for all the assistance received from Stanford as well as my family.
Although all indicators point to me beating cancer, the treatment has left me with debilitating health issues. Due to obvious demands on my voice, the sales career I held prior to my diagnosis is no longer a career I can pursue. I have been a Disc Jockey Entertainer since 1986, but voice demands preclude me from doing enough work to keep the bills paid. The radiation treatment has left my throat badly scarred internally. It paralyzed one of my vocal cords and diminished my saliva production. All these factors severely impact my ability to speak; after approximately two hours of talking my voice starts to break and becomes unusable. Some days I can extend that time, but I pay dearly the following day and need much more time to recuperate.
Real Estate Home Inspection is a process of tests and observations on homes which are, in most cases, listed for sale. Vocal interaction is not required during the Inspection of the property. My voice would only be needed during the customer explanation of an inspection and during conversations with Real Estate Professionals. I have confidence in my success, and everyone I’ve spoken with believes this business fits me well. In my many years of running a Mobile Disc Jockey business I have proven that I can work in a self-employed role. In addition, I have industry knowledge from a previous job working with a real estate appraiser and have contacts in the Real Estate industry who have already declared their support. I am a people person, and I know how to work well in a referral based business.
I’ve long been searching for a job in which I’m qualified and is not voice intensive, obviously without success. It’s time to create my own job! Help me if you can. If you are not able to contribute financially I would appreciate your support by spreading word of my need.
