Save our family home.
Hi there, I’m Dan, I’m 25, and I live with my mother, Rita age 54. We’re trying to get back on our feet financially and while weathering Mom’s medical problems. It all began in 2012, when my grandmother passed away, and as she had no will, our family home entered a split inheritance. Mom managed to pay the taxes and necessary bills. Meanwhile, Mom was working while recovering from a hand surgery. The medications she was taking caused an emergency surgery for a Duodenum perforation, a surgery which she
almost died from.
This surgery started a chain of hospital visits which caused medical complications with Mom, weakened her, hurt her, and prevented her from enjoying life and working. By the middle of 2013, she had to stop working. In 2015, Mom suffered another perforation in a location about a half foot from the duodenum into the small intestines and underwent a second surgery. After this surgery she had rested for 3 weeks and had to be cut open again as she started coughing up blood just before being released. The surgeon apologized stating someone must have nicked her when closing up during the initial surgery. After the back to back abdominal surgeries, She was put in a medically induced coma for a a few days and was considered not to make it through the first night. An improperly secured artery line resulted in her suffering a staph infection. Later, a nurse changing her bed moved her roughly, and caused her wounds to open up, another situation she nearly died from and a loss of 3 pints of blood. Throughout these ordeals, doctors had to replace her feeding tubes, which was a painful process. Despite so much medical attention, Mom wasn’t getting better, she was getting worse when she was sent home 10 and a half weeks later. She decided to get tests taken by a parasitology lab in Arizona by mailing samples to them. The results came back with 3 different parasites: Cryptosporidium, Pin worms, and later Giardia. She’s also had a large concentration of C. diff, which is bacteria that can cause issues ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. To this day, Mom needs to take 2mg of Dilaudid every 6 hours to avoid awful withdrawal symptoms and pain. In 2016 she was diagnosed with having a rare hereditary disease called Zollinger Ellison's syndrome. It effects the pancreas where there is a tiny benign tumor but could become cancerous, but it has been shrinking. Mom was able to finally feel better enough to eat again in 2018 and put on some weight until recently having a setback with her health again.
Finally, in addition to medical problems, Mom has been fighting to keep control of the house and pay for both the house and the medical treatments that insurance doesn't cover. Her boyfriend of 4 years left us in October 2018 after failing to make 3 months of payments on the house. At the moment, Mom and I are currently $10,000 in debt with less than 2 months to pay it off to be reinstated on the loan and to make ends meet.
I’ve made this GoFundMe for Mom’s sake, to take some of the stress off of her, so we can have a normal life again.
