Miranda vs. Cancer

Miranda Lemons has been a member of the Lake Almanor Basin community for her entire life. She was born and raised in Chester, California; where she also attended high school and was an active member of the Lake Almanor Community Church along with her parents, Jeff and Brenda Lemons. Jeff and Brenda remain residents of Chester and are the owners of the beloved Coffee Station located in town. Miranda now goes by Miranda Shepherd, as she got married to her husband Taylor in October of 2020. Since getting married, her husband Taylor has joined the armed forces and is now an active military member of the United States Army. While living in North Carolina; Taylors current duty station; Miranda began experiencing some gastrointestinal discomfort in mid 2022, and by the grace of God received a colonoscopy in early January of 2023. Expecting the results to come back verifying a minor medical issue, Miranda and Taylor received the devasting news that Miranda has developed colorectal cancer at only 26 years old. Over the past weeks, Miranda received imaging and tests, revealing that she had a malignant adenocarcinoma located in the distal portion of her rectum. Originally the doctors planned to remove the tumor with a relatively minor surgery, however once the operation had begun, the surgeon in charge was forced to terminate the operation due to the discovery that the tumor had in fact spread to the muscle tissue of the rectum; making it inoperable. Miranda then received another dose of devasting news that due to her condition, she would have to undergo Chemotherapy and Radiation in an attempt to shrink the tumor, ergo making it removable without resulting in Miranda having to live the rest of her life with a permanent stoma. As Miranda heads into a tough season ahead, her husband is also currently enrolled in an advanced combat medic course located at Fort Bragg, which will last the better part of the year. Miranda, Taylor, and their family are asking for donations in order to offset the financial burden of Miranda being unable to work during her eight-to-twelve months of treatment, as well as the financial cost of airfare for the family in order to fly to North Carolina and assist in care, as Taylor is unable to leave his military training.
