Autism service Dog for Carter
Donation protected
To all our Family and Friends,
I hope this holiday has found you health and love. As many of you know our family has been personally touched by autism. Carter has been struggling both socially and emotionally for years to find his equilibrium. Years ago we explored options for a service dog to help him face his challenges, but at the time decided to wait and try other modalities of support first.
After much research, social networking, and prayer we have decided to add this service member to our family. We truly believe that this support has untapped potential as Carter has an overwhelming love toward animals. Sometimes social/emotional communication taught by non-human counterparts can help us grow in our understanding of the world. This is just one piece of the very difficult puzzle we are trying to piece together for him.
We truly believe that the addition of a service dog that has been specifically bred and trained to meet Carter’s needs will serve as a valuable therapeutic tool for Carter’s early intervention, at home and school. This added support will give him the independence for everyday tasks that you and I take for granted.
With this all being said, the reason for my letter is to ask for your assistance in a charitable donation in Carter’s name to the North Star Foundation. It is our responsibility to raise half the true cost of this placement($7500). So please, if you have the means no matter how large or small to help us continue to support Carter please donate directly to the foundation. If you choose to donate please specify that it is for Carter as he has already been selected as North Star kid/canine partnership slated to be born June 2020. This new member of our team will require extensive training to meet the standards for public access of this therapeutic placement.
We cannot thank everyone in our family and community enough for this ongoing support. It really takes a village and we couldn’t make this possible without you!
With so much love and gratitude,
Maggie, Albert, Carter and Dottie
