100% of your donation will go to rebuild the clinic (less GoFundMe's processing fee). We will take no overhead or admin fee.
Hello. I am the CEO of Bright Futures Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Grants Pass, Oregon, and run by an all-volunteer board. We have been on the ground working in Nepal since 2000 to improve lives by empowering women and children through quality healthcare and education. We have supported the Bhotechaur Health Clinic since its original construction in 2003 and also have a small education project in Kathmandu. Our full story can be found on our website at www.brightfuturesfoundation.org.
Until April 25th, the Bhotechaur Health Clinic proudly stood as a beacon of health and hope for tens of thousands of people in the Himalayan foothills in Sindhupalchowk District in Nepal. The clinic was destroyed in the earthquake, and 99% of the 1200 village households were reduced to rubble.
More than 50,000 people live within the service area of the clinic. Annually, 4,000+ people sought care there. The clinic provided much-needed healthcare for the female population in the region who are overworked, undernourished, and overlooked. More than 60% of the patients are female, and 35% are under age 5. The clinic had a birthing room and women's annex where women could receive specialized treatment. The clinic had been officially designated as a Regional Birthing Center, greatly increasing the number of women who came to the clinic for prenatal care, delivery of their babies, and post-natal care, resulting in an increase in healthy babies.
More than a healthcare facility, the clinic was also a gathering place for the community. Now the clinic is gone, reduced from the most modern building in a vast area to a jumble of rocks in less than 15 seconds. We want to reconstruct the clinic. We pledge that 100% of all money donated in this campaign (minus GoFundMe's fees) will go directly to rebuild the Bhotechaur Health Clinic. Rebuilding the clinic also means helping rebuild the lives of the larger community.
