Support Cameron's Fight Against Cancer

Meet my cousin Brooklyn and her husband, Cameron Simmons - a couple whose love story is truly one for the ages.

Brooklyn and Cameron met in high school, quickly falling in love and planning their future together. The night Cameron proposed, I listened to Brooklyn tell me all about her proposal - how it was everything she could have possibly dreamed of and more. In April of 2023, they had the most beauitful wedding, a celebration of a love so pure and undeniable. There is something so special about watching two people so obviously perfect for one another start their lives together. You can imagine our excitement when Brooklyn and Cameron announced on Christmas that they are pregnant... with twins!! Our whole family is overjoyed, eagerly anticipating the arrival of their little ones this summer.

Unfortunately, in the midst of their joy, their world was turned upside down.

Shortly after learning they were expecting, Cameron began experiencing some concerning symptoms. Within weeks, doctors discovered the cause - an 18 cm (now 20 cm) tumor in his abdomen. Cameron was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC), an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. Cameron's diagnosis is quite literally one in a million.

Today (February 20th), Cameron will undergo major surgery to remove the large tumor. This procedure will also involve the partial or complete removal of several organs. He will spend at least five days in the hospital recovering, before beginning an intense six-month journey of chemotherapy and radiation - treatment that will continue even as he and Brooklyn welcome their twins into the world.

Brooklyn works full-time as a nurse, and Cameron works in the tech industry. Obviously, treatment as intense as this will cause Cameron to be out of work for an undetermined amount of time. Brooklyn intends to work full-time up until she delivers their twins. No one can financially prepare for a curveball like this.

We never knew it was possible to be so undeniably ecstatic and devastated at the exact same time.

Through it all, they have an army of loved ones rallying behind them. Still, as you can imagine, the financial burden of Cameron's treatment, combined with the costs of delivering and raising twins, is overwhelming.

Brooklyn and Cameron need as much support, both emotionally and financially, as we can provide them during this exciting and trying time in their lives.
