My husband and I have always taken great joy in being able to give and do for others. Due to a drastic change in my husband’s health we now find ourselves in a position of not even being able to help ourselves. He is critically ill and in desperate need of a liver transplant. We have not worked in almost a year and have sold most anything we had of value to survive. We had just begun building our small retirement place when all his health problems started. He is now on disability and I have to be home to care for him as he is mostly bedridden at this point. The transplant hospitals are in Houston, Texas which is about 2 hours from where we live in Brenham Texas. We recently had to change our insurance plan to one which would cover his transplant. However, that resulted in drastically higher monthly premiums and deductibles. The good news is the hospitals have a 98% success rate for their liver transplants and Jim is near the top of the donor list as he has liver cancer. When the transplant is done we will have to stay within a 30 minute drive from the hospital for a month minimum in case of transplant rejections issues. The bad news is we simply are unable to pay those higher costs ourselves and he must have the transplant done if he is to survive. He would be mortified to ever ask for any financial help, but I need to put any pride aside and ask for help to try and save my husband’s life.
This past year in addition to caring for him and my mother until she recently passed away, I have been continuing to attempt to finish building our home. We had no inside plumbing for almost 6 months until Calvary Baptist Church heard about our needs and they stepped up to help us. Who knew the sound of a flushing toilet is the most beautiful sound in the world?!! Well it is after months of only a porta-potty. We still have no ceilings, etc. but it is now weather tight. We did not know a soul when we moved here and we are so very blessed to have our new church family members and other wonderful people in this community who have been amazing with many their acts of kindness. We would truly have been lost without them, especially Reverend Bob Craig who at 76 years of age comes out every Tuesday and most Thursdays to work on the house with me, mentors me, prays with us, and is special to us beyond words. He will fuss at me for singling him out, but how could I not.
So no, I have no pride left. But I do have my faith. I pray that God will touch the hearts of any of you that are willing and able to donate financially to help us in our time of great need. Any amount will be sincerely and greatly appreciated. If you are not able to help financially please keep us in your prayers, we need those too. Thank you in advance for your help. May God Bless you all.
