July 3rd new entry: Thank you all for the love and support during this difficult time. We found out today that my mom, Katie, has been accepted into the Golisano Rehabilitation Center at Unity Hospital! We are looking to get her home on Thursday, July 6th and the donations from this GoFundMe are going towards her transportation back to Rochester and other medical bills. June 27th: Hello everyone! This is Mikayla. To those who may not know yet, my mother, Katie Ayala, suffered from a very serious stroke on Sunday afternoon. We were on the way to my little brother’s last basketball game of his AAU tournament in Wildwood, New Jersey, when I realized my mom was no longer responsive and she began swerving the car. To say this was a terrifying experience is an understatement. In that moment, I was able to grab the wheel and take control, pull us over to the side of the road & put the car in park. I instantly got on the phone with 911 and she has been at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with some of the most amazing medical personnel since. Although she has undergone a terrible stroke, her progress over the past few days has amazed us all & we only have high hopes for what is to come. We are so grateful to everyone who has sent their love, prayers & positive vibes. It has meant more than you will ever know. We are starting a fundraiser for anyone who would like to lend a hand.
