Pedro's Kidney Transplant Recovery
Donation protected
Hello everyone! Thank you for taking time to read my story and for your consideration to donating to my campaign. My name is Pedro and I am a hemodialysis patient on the verge of receiving a kidney transplant. The reason I have started this campaign is actually not because I need to cover the cost of the surgery but because I will not have the necessary means to pay for my living expenses while I am recovering and unemployed and will require some help. I will be receiving disability insurance from the state (which will not be enough to keep afloat) but I do not qualify for social security.
I was initially hospitalized and diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome in May of 2009. It turned out that the HUS had destroyed my kidneys beyond repair; they were only functioning at 10%. I received a blood transfusion and plasmapheresis and was put on hemodialysis. I have now been on dialysis for close to seven years.
After the many years of the trials and tribulations of dealing with health insurance I was finally able to get authorization for living donor surgery (thanks Obamacare:). My loving mom has agreed to be my donor. She has gotten all her living donor testing done and is obviously a blood match. They did find a small aneurysm in one of her kidney arteries but they will be able to repair it as it is being transplanted in me. So besides that my mom is completely healthy and more than happy to donate her kidney to me. Love you ma!
So I am starting this gofundme campaign because figuring out my living expense situation during recovery, which will take 60 to 80 days, is the last step before I am able to set a date for the transplant. Right now I am living with my mom and sister in Sacramento. They both recently moved out here and they have yet to find jobs so I am the only one who has been paying the rent and a couple of other bills.
Anything that you can donate will help my family and I pay the bills, make me healthier and relief a huge amount of stress. Getting a transplant will give my life more normality and I will no longer have to go to dialysis three times a week. I will have more energy and the time to work normal hours and become a completely productive member of society.
So I thank and appreciate all the help I can get and I ask everybody to share this page with a few people. Thanks again!
