The Slack Family

Hey everyone! My name is Alex Given, I put together a go fund me in support of my cousin Jim Slack and my lifelong friend Amber Rich to help with medical expenses and monthly bills in the coming year.

On October 10th, Jim and Amber welcomed their second son into the world, Remington Slack. They were so excited to get back home, to their at the time 1 1/2 year old son Rowan. Unfortunatly, after 3 days in the mother baby unit at woman and Infants, they were rushed to the NICU (Neonatal Intesive Care Unit) due to baby Remi not passsing a bowel movement. After some invasive testing, and countless blood tests, Mr. Remi was diagnosed with Hirshsprungs disease. Hirshsrungs disease is a disease of the rectum and colon where there are no nerve endings developed in his colon while inside moms belly.

On October 20th, also moms birthday, Remi recieved surgery to biopsy his colon cells to determine the extent of his colon that was lacking nerve cells. Unfortunatly, Mr. Remi has whats called long segmant Hirshsprungs, meaning there are no cells in most of his colon. The surgeons had no chioce but to place an ileostomy bag so Remi can continue to move his bowels while he grows and anticipates his future surgery.

In the coming months Remi will need up to possibly 3 more surgeries, where they will biopsy the remaining bowel to determine exactly how much has nerve endings he has, and to take out the bowel that has no fuction and reconect that to his rectum, and a final surgry if everything goes as planned to remove the ileostomy bag.

I started this to help their family with current and incoming medical bills, as well as monthly bills. Before Mr. Remi, Jim and Amber both worked full time, Jim as a Electrician and Amber as an RN. As it stands Amber will be home fulltime for a good part of the up coming year to fully care for Remi and Rowan, making finances tight for the family of 4.
