2020 is the worst

Let me tell y’all about my best friend.  This chick has been my ride or die for close to 20 years now.  She is so strong, y’all.  She has endured more than anyone ever should, and yet here it is 2020 and she has hit the motherload of crappy years.  She is a full time working single mom, who dedicates her life every day to helping nurture other people’s children while being one of the best moms I’ve ever seen, she is kind, she is hilarious, and well, she’s one of my favorite people in the world.  Earlier this year, she called me to tell me she had breast cancer.  She fought it like the bad B she is, and kicked it’s ass.  She has one more surgery to go to finish that battle for good.   Today she texts me to tell me that now, 2 weeks before surgery, she has found out that the school where she works (the one I helped open 10 years ago as the campus director, and where Christy herself was one of the first teachers) is permanently shutting it’s doors mid December.  So right before Christmas, this single mom of 2 kids is having MAJOR surgery, losing her job and therefore her insurance, and will be trying to recover while also trying to find another job and support her little family.
When I say I never thought I’d start a gofundme I really, really meant it.  But y’all, I CANNOT sit by and watch my best friend fight the fight of her life while also wondering how to pay for her medical treatments and follow ups and support herself and her children, AND job hunt on top of it.  My goal is to get her a little nest egg that will allow her to focus on her health and family while giving her some time to heal before having to dive into the job market.
