Dog attack

Hello, my name is Nicole Ham and my family is trying to raise funds to cover medical expenses of our family and sweet pup after a dog attack on November 17, 2023.

My two children and I had just gotten home from school, where I am a preschool teacher, and the grocery store when I went to let our 1.5 year old German Shepherd, Cooper outside. He wanted to go over to the neighbors yard first so as him and I were on the sidewalk when four dogs, unfortunately trained pit pulls who were loose that day, came running from in between our neighbor and their neighbors house and encircled our dog. As one began to lick our dogs face the one from the rear jumped onto Cooper and latched onto his jugular. From there they all began to attack him. Begin 24 weeks pregnant I jumped onto my dog keeping my belly to his back and grabbing his throat to protect it as much as I could while screaming and kicking for help. My 10 year old daughter got bit once as she was right behind me when this all began happening. My 7 year old son had to witness it all, “thinking mommy was being eaten.” While screaming my 10 year old began flagging down cars and called 911.

An outpouring of neighbors and bystanders started to come to our rescue with shovels and began kicking. Miraculously one gentleman was able to subdue the one on my dogs throat enough to get her to unlatch. While everyone protected us another neighbor followed me, my dog and children into the house. Thankfully all four dogs were caught but I ended up with a two hour hand surgery at Jewish, my daughter ended up at Baptist for stitches on her wound and our sweet dog has just underdone the second of three surgeries to repair muscle and remove dead tissue from his wounds.

I have never been one to ask for help, and we have received so many blessings through church, friends, neighbors and coworkers and meal trains but we are struggling to cover medical expenses for our dog (up to $3200) and my upcoming medical expenses. Any blessings would be greatly appreciated and you will be in our prayers.
