Josefina Garcia Poniente

Spende geschützt
On Monday the 4th of January, Josefina "Josie" Garcia Poniente claimed her Angel wings after losing her brave battle against Covid.

Auntie Josie was a loving wife to Uncle Eddie, mother to Edward, Emil, and Gemma, and Grandma to Gabriel, Ellice, and Benji.

Others may know Auntie Josie as “Josephines”, the family-run restaurant of nearly 25 years, where Auntie Josie would work tirelessly behind the scenes feeding the community as only Filipinos can!

The Poniente family have been touched by the overwhelming amount of messages of support from friends and families, taking comfort in the knowledge of how much Auntie Josie meant to others.

Many have asked of ways that they could show support in remembering Auntie Josie, and help the family manage in these exceptionally difficult times.
This community fundraising page has been set up where any donations will be given directly to the family to help manage financially, especially with funeral costs, and to recover from the knock-on effect that the pandemic has had on the family business.

For those that didn’t know Auntie Josie well, or at all, here are some personal words from her son Emil that couldn’t better describe the person she was, and what she meant to her family...

Mum was the rock of our family and a pillar within the Filipino community. She was stubborn in that she only ever wanted to serve God through serving her family and friends. She was a feeder and if you came to the restaurant not wanting to eat, she fed you anyway. And if you came to her with a problem or worry, it didn’t matter if you were religious or not, mum prayed for you with all the love within her huge heart. “God is so good” she would say with a knowing smile.

Mum helped so many people over the years without want for anything in return. She believed in doing the right thing and in doing so, God would send his blessings to her.

Her dream was to work hard with my dad then reap the rewards of her hard work by retiring at home in the Philippines with him. Not only did Covid impact our family but it impacted the family business that she built with dad too. Restaurants, especially independent, family run restaurants  unfortunately took a huge hit during the lockdowns and the fate of the family business does not look promising. Yet there will always be the warm and loving memories that not only her family and friends can take with them of the place but everyone who dined there whom she was more than glad to cook for.

Mum worked so hard over the years through her tiredness and aches and deserves to rest in paradise forever.

On behalf of the Poniente Family, I’d like to say a huge thank you for the overwhelming love and support we’ve been shown by everyone since mum’s passing. It’s truly amazing to know that she touched so many people so dearly. Many of you have asked if you could contribute towards mum’s final journey of rest and so it was recommended that we create this page. We thank you whole-heartedly for your contributions and any funds left over after laying mum to rest will go towards supporting the family during this difficult time.

Please stay safe over the coming months and thank you for being a part of mum’s loving life  ️<3
