Crossover School Appeal

Crossover Orphanage School in Ghana
is a haven for children rescued from slavery, international trafficking and the general hardships of life as one of the world’s poor. It has very few sources of income for the work it undertakes.

The members of the International Women’s Academy belief we can do more to help. The Jersey College for Girls' IWA Club are collectively running a range of projects to target the needs of the students at Crossover. They will be visiting the orphanage in October of this year and have the attitude that ‘if we have it why shouldn’t they!’. The following are their projects they are leading:

 1.     FEMALE HYGIENE:      EDOM

Every girl should be able to study Every Day of the Month. This team will produce reusable sanitary towels for all the girls in the orphanage and provide them with a means to produce their own for every day of the month. No longer will they have to rely on leaves, old books and old clothes.

£5 will buy enough renewable sanitary towels for 1 student for a year

£100 will pay for a sewing machine to allow the students to make their own

£500 will supply enough material for sanitary towels for the whole school.

 2.     EDUCATION:

a.     SCIENCE FANTASTIC:

A science lab with books, experimental equipment, and lesson plans will allow the students to enjoy the magic of science.

b.     LIBRARY PROJECT GHANA:

Every student has the right to read, develop their language and enjoy a good book. LPG plans to set-up a library of reading materials coupling paper books with ebooks, and other literacy resources

£100 will pay for one e-book

c.      SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

We take for granted that when we graduate from school, we can continue our education at university or college. Why shouldn’t the girls of the Crossover Orphanage have the same advantages.

£1000 will allow a student to complete 1 year of teacher training

3.     FOOD:       TIME FOR TREES:

Offset your personal carbon footprint by planting a Mango Tree at the orphanage. The tree will take in the carbon you produce and use it to make mangos for the girls to eat and sell. A double win!

            £5 will buy one tree

£25 will offset the carbon for a round trip to anywhere on the planet

HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE PROCESSED?
All funds raised will be collected by Jersey College for Girls through their school bank account. Funds will then be applied to the above projects.
