Hey ladies and gents!
First of all, thank you for checking out this page. I am truly grateful for any help and support I get while trying to achieve my goal. My name is Johnny Longley and I was chosen to represent my fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi, in the Mr. Greek philanthropy of Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Washington.
Every year, a candidate from each fraternity is selected to raise money throughout the year for Treehouse for kids and Diabetes Research and Education. Treehouse for kids invests in the lives of kids who have faced problems at home with parenting by helping them achieve the essential education, giving them the proper materials to do so, and equal social opportunities that they all deserve. At the time, there are around 9,000 children in foster care in Washington State. These children are with no help and no understanding of where they are and who they are with. The youth is the future of this country and we need to help them achieve to their fullest extent. Because they are the only agency in King County that provides youth in foster care with the help they need to achieve at the same rate as their peers, they need all the help they can get.
I experienced something like this first-hand when I visited my family in Cuba. My great-uncle introduced his childhood friend to my family and I at dinner on the first night. She was a single mother of six kids, whose ages varied from 5 to 18. The mother, barely able to provide for them, tried her hardest to give them a good education and the proper tools to achieve what their peers were. Althought it is not quite the same as foster care, the lack of resources in both situations make it hard for any child to receive an appropriate amount of guidance. From now until the end of February, I will be raising money for this philanthropy in hopes of hitting my goal.
