To Help Our Family Survive — and Help Fares Recover from a Critical Injury

We are Fares and Tarek from Gaza.

We’re currently living in a tent with our family after losing our home and everything we owned.

We survived bombings, injuries, and forced displacement — but now we are facing a different kind of battle: the daily fight to survive under impossible living conditions.

Life in Gaza has become almost unlivable — no electricity, limited access to water, no income, and basic necessities are either unavailable or shockingly expensive.

What things cost in Gaza today:

• 1 can of hummus: $5.40

• 1 can of fava beans: $6.80

• 1 can of tuna: $8.20

• Lentils: $13.70 per kilo

• Red pepper: $27.40 per kilo

• Coffee: $220 per kilo — and we’re not even sure it’s real

• Shampoo (not original): $16.50

• Hand soap (not original): $11

• Rice: $24.70 per kilo

• Sugar: $164 per kilo

• Tomatoes: $35.60 per kilo

• Jam: $54.80

• Honey (small jar): $54.80

Also:

• Flour: 100 shekels per kilo (~$27)

• Cooking oil: 90 shekels per liter (~$24)

Every trip to the market is emotionally and financially overwhelming.

1. Fares’ treatment and recovery

Fares suffered a severe injury to his arm and has already undergone 7 major surgeries, including a complex bone graft. He is still in a long recovery process and needs:

• 15 hospital visits per month

• Each trip costs us 100 shekels (~$27) for transportation alone

• Ongoing physical therapy, medication, and a special healthy diet

But with no stable income and extreme prices, even getting him to the hospital is becoming impossible.

2. Helping our family survive

We live in a tent, without stable electricity or water, and we struggle daily to afford basic needs — food, clean water, and basic hygiene products.
