Support Joey's Journey to Recovery

On December 9th, my brother-in-law, Joey, suffered a very tragic severe stroke causing a brain bleed and complete numbness on the left side of his body. Due to the location of the bleed and it being so close to the brain stem there was no surgery that could help him. During the stroke, he also aspirated, causing fluids to enter his lungs, which in turn caused him to develop pneumonia as well. Based on the severity of his condition, he was sedated and intubated. He remained sedated and on the ventilator for 13 days. By God’s grace, he was able to come off of the ventilator; however, he has been bedridden ever since the stroke. The brain bleed is slowly healing; however, it will be an uphill battle to correct any vision issues, speech delays, and mobility for the left side of his body. He has a long road ahead of him to fully recover, and this inevitably will have a financial impact on him as well.

The hospital he has been at for the past 3 weeks does not accept his insurance. He will also be moved soon to an inpatient rehabilitation facility. With the new year coming and insurance plans starting all over, the Castillo family is trying to raise funds for Joey to ensure he does not have to worry about the financial hardship this has caused and can focus on recovery! The funds will go towards ongoing medical expenses, equipment needed to ensure his home is accessible, and any future needs as he navigates this new way of life.

We ask also for prayer that Joey stays in this fight and stays encouraged through this process as he has been given a second chance at life, and knows he has a lot of work to do to get to where he needs to be!
