Kristen's journey for a new Heart

Donation protected
This is my cousin Kristen.  She is a single mother of two, who has raised her kids on her own since her 2nd daughter  Meghin was born.  After delivering her 1st daughter Kaitlyn, she was diagnosed with cardio myopathy.  She was told she could not work and had to be a stay at home mom having to travel back and forth to the Bronx to Upstate NY for treatment.   She found out she was pregnant with her 2nd daughter and  the doctors were very concerned.  She knew at that time this would be her last child and she was just happy to be able to give Kaitlyn a sister.  Unknown to herself that her husband would walk out on them leaving a sick mother to raise two children on her own.  Although she was told she could not work and needed to keep traveling back and forth for treatment.  That did not stop her. She knew she had to work to be able to support her children and give them the life she felt they deserved.  She went back to school and started working as a medical biller.  She worked so hard she began running the office.  She worked long hours, and was very tired and still came home and made dinner for her daughters and cooked and kept a beautiful home for them.  As the years went on she began to get more tired and her heart too became very tired.  The doctors insisted on a defibrilator for her heart but she was against it.  After many nights of talking and talking with many friends and family she decided it was the best thing for her. She had the surgery and truth be told, it was just horrible.  I can remember calling her and so excited to hear that she was doing great, only to find out that the procedure was very difficult and she was extremely uncomfortable and tired.  Being the strong woman she was, having to depend on family and friends was not something she handled well.  Cutting wood to warm her home was a definte no, and  the cold weather was too much for her to handle so after her parents moved down south to the Carolina's she decided to go as well.  She found a job and a nice little home.  She wasnt feeling great but as always chin up and smile on and she worked hard.  It wasnt until one day her defibrilator went off that they realized something was wrong.  After several months of testing and emergency room visits and admits, they decided to put a strong defriblator in.  Soon after she had a stroke, leaving her confused and unable to use one side.  Luckily for her she gained that back and was released from work.  She was then out of work, yet again, and hospital bills and doctor bills pouring in.  She found out that due to her illness and several hospital trips and stays her position was given to someone else.  She didnt blame her employer, they needed a f/t worker to run the department, but with no full time work, benefits were gone as well as a f/t income.  With the help of her daughters and parents co workers, and employer, they are trying to stay a float.  Since her last visit in the hospital it is finally decided it is time to get the testing done to be put on the transplant list.  In the meantime, she has barely any income coming in, finally received assistance in insurance but it doesnt go back as far as her outstanding medical bills. She had to leave the hospital with a picc line because oral medications were just not helping her cardiac output and her heart began to fail.  She was retaining fluid which started to affect her kidneys and they had to do something.  So the only thing they could do was the picc line.  Now the testing begins.  I am hoping you will all find it in your heart to contribute to this incredibly strong determined woman who has given so much to everyone always, and never asking for anything in return.  She is too young to not beable to enjoy her life, and her daughters are too young to be alone.  Thanking you all in advance!!
