This campaign is being organised by Colin Stewart, Director for Education and Inclusion on behalf of the London Borough of Redbridge.
A child having access to a suitable laptop for remote learning makes all the difference to the quality of their education, yet it is estimated that 9% of families in the UK do not have any laptop, desktop or tablet at home. Many children are also missing online lessons whilst they share with siblings and their working parents.
You’ll have seen in the news that schools were allocated a certain number of laptops for children last year but there just weren’t enough for every child that needs one. This is why we’ve launched our ‘Making IT Happen’ campaign, in partnership with Redbridge schools.
Our aim is to lend a laptop to every Redbridge child that does not have access to a suitable device for online learning. Once a device is no longer needed by a child it will be returned to their school, which means that not only will it support a child who desperately needs it now, but will continue to support education in the future too.
How it works:
· The campaign is being organised by the London Borough of Redbridge on behalf of children and schools across Redbridge
· With every £200 raised we will be able to provide a child with a device
· Devices will then be distributed to a Redbridge school child who doesn’t have suitable access to a device for their remote learning
· Once a child no longer needs access to the device, it will be returned to the child’s school to support education in the future
· If there are more devices than schools require, we will support digitally excluded residents in Redbridge
