Hello, my name is Valerie, and I am raising funds for my 15-year-old brother Sergio Arellano Martinez who lives in Mexico City.

My brother has Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by a mutation that leads to a deficiency of functional fibrillin-1. Although his complications became noticeable later in life, and at first glance he may appear healthy, this syndrome weakens the connective tissues, leading to overgrowth and instability in many parts of the body, including the skeleton, heart, blood vessels, eyes, and lungs.

Because of this condition, he has been diagnosed with pectus carinatum (sometimes called “pigeon chest”), a deformity where the chest wall pushes outward. These deformations are not only affecting his posture but also creating serious complications in his daily life. Most urgently, it is compressing his lungs and heart as time passes, making it difficult for him to breathe, move, and grow normally. His heart already has complications and is shaped abnormally, which puts him at serious risk if he does not receive treatment.

Doctors have urgently recommended the "Arnés Sistema Compresor Dinámico FMF®", a specialized medical harness. Because he is in his teens, this corset is critical to stop the progression of his scoliosis, relieve pressure on his chest, and protect his heart and lungs from further damage. Hola, mi nombre es Valerie y estoy recaudando fondos para mi hermano de 15 años, Sergio Arellano Martínez, que vive en México.

Sergio tiene síndrome de Marfan, un trastorno genético causado por una mutación que provoca una deficiencia de fibrilina-1 funcional. Aunque sus complicaciones se hicieron notorias más tarde en su vida, y a simple vista pueda parecer saludable, el síndrome de Marfan debilita los tejidos conectivos, lo que provoca un crecimiento excesivo e inestabilidad en muchas partes del cuerpo, incluyendo el esqueleto, el corazón, los vasos sanguíneos, los ojos y los pulmones.

A causa de esta condición, mi hermano ha sido diagnosticado con pectus carinatum (conocido también como “pecho de paloma”), una deformidad en la que la pared del pecho sobresale hacia afuera. Esta condición, junto con su escoliosis, no solo afecta su postura, sino que también está causando complicaciones serias en su vida diaria. Lo más urgente es que está comprimiendo sus pulmones y corazón, lo que le dificulta respirar, moverse y crecer de manera normal. Su corazón ya presenta complicaciones y tiene una forma anormal, lo que lo pone en grave riesgo si no recibe tratamiento.

Él merece la oportunidad de vivir plenamente sin dolor, sin miedo y con la libertad de seguir persiguiendo sus sueños.
