Help for Pete Zervakis
Donation protected
My brother Pete Zervakis was recently diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to his brain and base of spine. The part on the base of his spine is causing considerable pain and also interfering with his ability to walk. This has all happened in the past week and a half. Pete was in intensive care and got discharged last week to be transferred to a nursing care facility. However he discharged himself from the nursing facility. As a stop gap my little brother John has taken the last week off work in order to move him to my Dad's apartment (which has an elevator) as well as take him to and from radiation treatment appointments. Next week the doctors will decide whether or not to proceed with chemotherapy. We are super grateful that my brother John was able to step up during this crisis. However, this option will end shortly because he will have used up his leave time. The only other person who will be available to drive him for treatments and care will be my 85 year old father. I feel this is an unsafe option because my father has his own health conditions and is not strong enough to catch Pete if he falls getting in and out of the car/wheelchair.
I am creating this Gofundme so that my family will have resources at minimum, to provide transportation to and from treatments and care. Money will also be going to care and comfort for Pete that is not covered by insurance. If we get an overwhelming amount of support, John feels there is a powered wheelchair (2k) that would help him possibly use other transportation options.
Pete grew up in Glen Ellyn and lived for a time in Chicago IL. He was part of the Chicago punk music scene by being a member of two punk rock bands in the 80's (Violent Feedback and Scarred for Life). He was the guy in the back, playing the super fast loud drums. He was also the guy with the "mixer" or 8 track. He would spend hours mixing the songs and finding cool sound effects and background sounds for the songs. He also made many of the cassette tape inserts as well as show flyers. If we can dig up any of them we will share them.
Anything you can give will help, and in particular ease the burden on his two elderly parents and his little brother who who are caring for him.
