Hi! I’m calling on all Facebook friends and friends of friends to help a family in need!
Here’s a little background on this family and why they deserve our help:
Three years ago my husband and I were at Applebee’s and had a great waitress. We were so impressed with her service and work ethic that we became regulars and always chose her section to sit in. Her name is Rachelle Gonzalez. Some of my friends have heard me tell her story and some of you have even met her yourself.
In time we had the pleasure of getting to know Rachelle better. One day Rachelle found out that I am a police officer and opened up to us about her very difficult past.
Rachelle was exposed to drugs at a very young age and began using at 12 years old, starting her down a path of drug addiction. Rachelle has since struggled with drug addiction her whole life.
Rachelle had her first child, a son named Kane, when she was sixteen years old. Kane lived with his grandfather for much of his childhood due to Rachelle’s addiction.
Rachelle later met her partner in life, James, with whom she had two beautiful daughters. Rachelle and James continued their drug habits and four or five years ago CPS almost took their children away.
This was a huge wakeup call for Rachelle and James and they began their recovery. Rachelle has been clean for about four years and James about two years. They have been giving their children a happy childhood, making the best of what they have. Rachelle supported the family financially while James went to barber school. He graduated last year and is super talented. Rachelle plans to return to school and become a Chemical dependency counselor.
Rachelle never saw herself as a victim, and has fought through some major struggles, always staying strong in her faith in God that everything will be okay and working through whatever problems came her way. Some of these struggles have happened since I’ve known Rachelle and I’m amazed at her strength and focus and her ability afterwards to look at the particular struggle as something that made her stronger, after the motto “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”
Rachelle and her family have recently encountered the biggest struggle yet, with which they need our help. Rachelle was diagnosed with a pre-cancer situation and has to have major surgery to avoid the cancer. The surgery is July 7th and she will have to be off work between six and twelve weeks. During this time Rachelle will have no income. Rachelle and James will need help paying their bills and feeding their children.
I’m asking everyone to pitch in and help these good people with however much you can, even if it’s just a dollar. The goal is to reach $6000.00. If you can’t spare money, and you know them personally, please help in any way you are able to.
Rachelle and James did not ask me to set this fund up, and actually seemed hesitant about it when I asked them if they would be okay with it. I know they are very nervous about money right now and don’t quite know how they’re going to make it.
Thank you in advance for anything you can do!
Danielle
