Facing every parent's worst nightmare our 12yr old son Roman was diagnosed with the tumour last September. CARCINOMA MUCOEPIDERMOIDE ( tumour maligno ) We were absolutely devastated, had so many questions but not many answers. What we were hearing from hospitals was "A VERY RARE TYPE" of cancer of saliva gland. And so he went for all sorts of tests and every week hospital visits in Alicante ( sometimes twice a week ).

In November he had an operation in San Juan Alicante hospital and the tumour was removed. The operation was successful and he was recovering well. In January this year they moved him to different hospital La Fe in Valencia, where they suspected that the tumour came back and he would need another operation followed immediately by the protontherapy treatment in Madrid. We were absolutely heartbroken. He went down for more and more tests. After the big meeting of Maxilofacial, Radiology and Oncology doctors we received some fantastic news that there is no more sign of tumour but he still needs to take his protontherapy treatment in Madrid which will take around 6 - 7 weeks.

I don't know how we are going to cope with all the expenses like the accommodation for 7 weeks in Madrid, travelling and grocery shopping etc.. Any help we can get would be kindly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

Enfrentando la peor pesadilla de cualquier padre, a nuestro hijo Román, de 12 años, le diagnosticaron un tumor el pasado septiembre. CARCINOMA MUCOEPIDERMOIDE (tumor maligno). Estábamos destrozados, con muchísimas preguntas y pocas respuestas. Lo que oíamos de los hospitales era "UN TIPO MUY RARO" de cáncer de glándula salival. Así que acudió a todo tipo de pruebas y visitas semanales al hospital de Alicante (a veces dos veces por semana).

En noviembre lo operaron en el Hospital San Juan de Alicante y le extirparon el tumor. La operación fue un éxito y se estaba recuperando bien. En enero de este año lo trasladaron a otro hospital, La Fe, en Valencia, donde sospecharon que el tumor había reaparecido y que necesitaría otra operación, seguida inmediatamente de un tratamiento de protonterapia en Madrid. Estábamos destrozados. Acudió a más y más pruebas. Tras la importante reunión de médicos maxilofaciales, radiólogos y oncólogos, recibimos la fantástica noticia de que ya no hay signos de tumor, pero aún necesita su tratamiento de protonterapia en Madrid, que durará unas 6 o 7 semanas.

No sé cómo vamos a afrontar todos los gastos, como el alojamiento durante 7 semanas en Madrid, el viaje y la compra, etc. Cualquier ayuda que podamos recibir será muy apreciada.
