Repairing the Damage

My name is Cassaundra, Cassie for short. I live with my boyfriend of 3.5 years, Geremy Lewis, and his mom, Gemma Rabino in Daly City, Ca. We all work in San Francisco. I work for an app called Eat24, Geremy is a valet in the financial district for Standard Parking, and Gemma works for the city.

We love visiting my family - Myself, Geremy, my cousin ashley, my brother Christopher and my sister Caitlyn.

We also love to go to giants games with our friends.

Friday, May 8th, 10:30pm. Geremy and I had gone to the gym and were on the way home. We couldn't get to our street because fire trucks were blocking it off. We pulled up enough to see that our house was smoking. Geremy yelled that our house was on fire. I jumped out of the car to find his mom, when a police officer stopped me. I let her know it was our house that was on fire, and I needed to find our mom. She radioed in, and Gemma was one street over, safe with the police. I was dropped off and ran over to get to his mom while he found parking. I found her, in her pajamas with her boyfriend Andrew. She said that the neighbors had woken her up, she looked out her window and saw flames coming up the back stairs. The police then arrived and took her out of the house, not letting her get her purse, phone, or even shoes. They had been asleep only shortly. We waited around for about 4 hours in the cold, hoping someone could tell us something about the damage.
We started calling family, then close friends to let them know what happened. I stood in shock, praying that our house would be okay and the fire hadn't gotten to most of our stuff. As the night went on and the fire fighters went into the house with lights, it became more apparent the house was pretty destroyed.

Geremy and I spoke to the fire captain, he let us know they would be giving possesion of the house to our landlord at 7am, and that would be the best time for us to come back to go inside. Geremy's sister offered for us to stay at her house up the street.

After about 3 hours of restless sleep, we returned to what was left of our house. The fire fighters were gone and the landlord let us go in to get what we could.

Our living room, and Gemma inside looking at the damage.

The living room leads right into the kitchen.

The entire kitchen was destoryed. All of our appliances, cookware, silverware, utensils, everything is gone. We tried to recover some stuff, but the kitchen and Gemma's room took most of the fire damage.

This is Gemma's bed, where she laid shortly before the fire destroyed it.

Geremy and my room was not damaged by fire, but the soot, water, glass and debris damaged most of our room.

The garage thankfully did not take too much damage, but the back of the house is gone. They took everything from the back of the house and threw it into the backyard.

After everything, we are just extremely thankful that we are all alive. Now we're focused on finding a new place to live and replacing all of our lost items so we are able to move on from such a frightening experience.

We are thankful for all of our friends and family who are offering us a temporary place to stay as well as getting us back on our feet.  Any contribution will help. If you would like to send us something as well, please contact me and I can give you an address to send to.

At this point in time, we do not know the cause of the fire. There is much speculation, but the official report will come out at the end of the week. I will keep this updated as much as possible.

Thank you!
Cassie, Ger and Gemma
