Help Silas Breathe Easy: Donate Now
Donation protected
I am starting this GoFundMe for my brother and his family, Dallas and Shania. Their son Silas is unfortunately in the hospital again after complications from a recent procedure.
Silas just celebrated his first birthday a few months ago and has already undergone more procedures and surgeries than any child should have to endure, especially one at his age.
On 6/15, Silas was transported by helicopter to Iowa City a few days after his most recent procedure. He is on the most oxygen they can provide and has been given all the meds they can to make him comfortable, but he is by far in the worst shape he's ever been in.
They found that because of his laryngomalacia, there's a soft spot in his throat causing that section to get sucked in with every breath he takes. He is scheduled for yet another surgery to hopefully fix this on 6/23. If that is unsuccessful, they will have to use part of his rib to reconstruct that area instead.
I am heartbroken for my brother and his family. They've been going through so much emotionally and financially, and I'm hoping that this GoFundMe will at least help ease the financial burden that they have and show them how this community is here for them when they need it.
The last thing they should have to worry about is how they are going to afford their regular expenses when they should be focusing on their son and his upcoming surgeries. My brother has missed the last several weeks of work to be there for his son, and Silas will likely still be in the PICU for at least the next week or two which has put such a burden on them.
Thank you everyone
6/24- Silas' surgery yesterday went well but we wont know if it was a success until they can monitor him for another week or two.
Dallas and Shania are still struggling with their bills during this time and are so incredibly appreciative of every donation they've received. Please keep sharing to help them out as Silas is still in the PICU with an unknown discharge date.
