Dear Friends: My son Christopher is a wonderful man, has worked hard since he was 15 and put himself through culinary school. Chris had a job he loved spending 8 years as sous chef at Max Downtown in Hartford. October 7, 2012 our lives forever changed. My dear 30 year old son suffered a seizure that was caused by a cancerous brain tumor. He was doing well after radiation and 18 months of chemo and in July, it was discovered there was a new cancer below the originial tumor that was more advanced. His case was presented before the tumor board at Yale Hospital and the plan was to go back on the same chemo drug he took before with the addition of another chemo drug that would basically shut-down the receptors of the cancer cells to prohibit them mutiplying. Chris has been on disability as he has partial paralysis on one side due to the tumor. As such, he is on Medicare and Medicare will not cover the drug as it's not yet been approved for his cancer but is approved for other cancers. An appeal was denied. Chris started his chemo in August and REALLY NEEDS to have this additional chemo drug. This drug is roughly $9,000 + per month for self-pay, and we don't know how long he will need to be on it. Chris has been so strong through this, hasn't asked for or received help and still does all he can for those he loves. Please if you can, please donate so Christopher can receive this much needed treatment. Thank you and Bless you all.
