Jonathan is a 73 y.o. man who lives in a very remote cabin along the Wild & Scenic Rogue River with his beautiful German Shepherd, Samarah. He manages life with no electricity or other conveniences, in part because of his love of nature and in part because his Social Security income is far below the poverty line so he has to live as simply as possible. He has no family. I am a friend who lives in Grants Pass.
Jonathan and his dog were recently the subjects of a Josephine county citizen-led search & rescue after he became ill & sent out a distress call. He made it into town to get tested for the coronavirus. He lived in his truck while awaiting results. Thankfully his test came back negative (though there is a 25% chance of error!) But while in town he discovered that his truck suspension needs urgent repairs. Les Schwab strongly advised against any attempt to return home (the roads get very rough at some points) until the repairs are complete.
We are asking for donations for $2500 to allow Jonathan to pay for repairs and gas money to get home safely as quickly as possible. Any leftover funds will help Jonathan to augment food supplies for himself and Samarah. Meanwhile he is still staying in his truck.
Jonathan is an extraordinary person who is doing his best to survive adversity on his own. But he needs help from a wider community to succeed at this point. He cannot stay in his cabin without a truck to get supplies, and he cannot pay for the truck repairs himself. He has a big heart and dreams of someday having a small community of people living on his land in a spirit of mutual kindness and love. And perhaps that can happen in the future. But the immediate need is simpler and more urgent. Please help Jonathan and Samarah get what they need to get home, out of harm's way.
