My name is Kurt Hueneke and on April 19th, 2005 I was struck by a car while I was on my motorcycle, and my lower right leg was severely fractured. I was flown to the hospital in Kearney, Nebraska where I had the first of over 14 surgeries to repair my leg. Due to the severity of the fracture and a bone infection, my right leg was amputated below the knee on September 5th, 2006. I’m presently living with just Social Security Disability as my only income and approximately 4 years ago the prosthetic leg I was wearing broke and I could no longer use it. The prosthetic leg I’ve worn since then is one I pieced together from my previous prosthetics to the best fit I could find, because I could not afford a new one. This leg is past the worn out stage as the prosthetic foot is broken in several places, the liner is almost torn in two and has to be held to the socket by duct tape. For the past 3 years, the socket has rubbed an open sore on my right knee, and I have to also use duct tape to physically hold my prosthetic leg to the stump of my actual leg. This limits my ability to do a lot of things I used to do, and the one thing that hurts me the most is I can’t take my dog for the longer walks he deserves. What I’m asking for here on GoFundMe is the funds to help me purchase a new prosthetic leg along with the associated liners, socks and sleeves. I would also need help with gas money as the prosthetist is 70 miles away. I don’t want to be a professional para-athlete, I just want to be able to walk normally again, walk easily over uneven ground, workout at the gym, and especially walk my best friend, my dog Jäger..
