Angel's Emergency Cardiac Transfer

Donation protected

Angel has been a strong individual in his community as a professional as well as spiritually in his congregation and to those that have known
him. In 2008, the Alvarez family had a scare when Angel was taken into the hospital needing his first bypass.

Seven years later and here we are and he's still being strong. On November 13th,  Angel was taken to Palmetto hospital in Hialeah with shortness of breath. They found out that he had a cardiac problem that required immediate attention therefore, because of the severity, was transferred into Jackson Memorial Hospital on the 22nd . They performed a double bypass on the 30th and thought that he did well so 8 days later on, November 9th they discharged him.

Unfortunately, that was short-lived. Two days later on the 12th an emergency call was placed to 911 and he was sent to Jackson South. Once again the situation was fragile so they transferred him back to JMH main. One of the two bypasses had failed and the third artery that the surgeon had decided not to do was 90% obstructed. While they were able to place a stent on that third artery, the failed bypass was inoperable due to sustaining the previous surgical procedure. After having been placed on a balloon pump for five days, he seemed to be recovering well and was expected home by New Year's Day. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.

On January the 4th while still on the observation floor, Angel went into cardiac arrest. He's been placed on the heart medication, Dobutamine, which is what is ensuring his heart pumps blood however, his body is having a difficult time weaning off of it. Every time they have tried to, his heart stops functioning. Because of this they have found a hospital in Chicago that treat difficult cardiac cases such as Angel's. Unfortunately, Chicago is not very close to Florida. Another unfortunate thing is the insurance that Angel has does not cover the trip for transportation to get him there. The cost for that transportation is $25,000 ( the $5,000 needed is for the additional specialty nursing personnel to monitor his aortic balloon pump whilst traveling to Chicago). This includes the doctors, specialists and nursing staff as well as the emergency Airbus/fuel itself.  Time is so crucial in Angel's case. He has an aortic balloon being put in prior to the trip but it's urgent that he gets treated in Chicago once that procedure is done.

We're not begging but simply asking that, if at all possible, our family and friends help in this crucial time. Any donation, big or small, will help. If you can't donate please spread the word.  But most of all we ask for prayers. Prayers to strengthen Angel and prayers to give these doctors wisdom in their care for him. Jehovah is a wonderful God, and because of him we know that our brothers are friends in time of need.

Thank you for your prayers and support,

The Alvarez Family
