Steak in a Sack Rebuilding/Relief
Donation protected
I'm Chuck Fraley, owner and creator of the MarlowHeights60sand70s.com web site, who also grew up in Marlow Heights. One of Marlow Heights' long-time institutions, the Steak in a Sack, located in the Marlow Heights Shopping Center, caught fire on February 19, hours after the restaurant had closed for the day. The restaurant, open and owned since 1962 by the Khalid family, sustained significant fire damage, as well as collateral damage from fire rescue efforts.
Fortunately, initial assessments of the damage indicate that it is possible to rebuild Steak in a Sack. At the same time, the owner, Dennis Khalid, still has to work with his insurance company for a claim settlement, and after that, a contractor to perform the renovations and repairs. The money donated from this GoFundMe account will not only go towards any shortfall in insurance coverage, but more immediately, help Dennis pay his employees who have absolutely nothing right now. These are all hard working people, most with families, and I know the majority struggled to make ends meet even before the fire.
I ask that you look into your hearts and dig into your wallets and purses to help in the rebuilding of Steak in a Sack, as well as providing some temporary financial assistance to its employees that receive no income at this time. This is an excellent way to help, "Keep the Memories Alive", and preserve a Marlow Heights landmark. I will personally collect all donations and give it to the owner of Steak in a Sack, Dennis Khalid.
