Supporting Melissa's Fight Against Breast Cancer
Hi everyone, I’m reaching out to share some news about my wife, Melissa, and to ask for your support as our family navigates a very challenging road ahead.
Recently, Melissa was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has been incredibly strong, but we have a long journey in front of us. We have already been making frequent trips from our home in the Marysville area to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for her care.
She is now preparing for surgery to remove the cancer, with the possibility of needing a second procedure depending on the results. Following the surgeries, she will need to undergo six weeks of daily radiation. This will require us to drive back and forth to Sacramento every single day for the duration of her treatment.
One of the hardest parts of this timing is that fire season is rapidly approaching. As many of you know, Melissa works as a caterer to wildland firefighters. It is a job she loves deeply, and it is truly heartbreaking for her that she won’t be able to be out there this year doing the work she is so passionate about. Because of the physical toll of these procedures and the intensive schedule of radiation, she is forced to step away from work entirely this season. With her unemployment benefits from last year also running out, our family is facing a significant loss of income just as our medical and travel expenses are peaking.
We are setting up this fund to help cover:
Transportation costs for the daily commute to UC Davis in Sacramento.
Medical expenses not covered by insurance.
Essential living expenses to bridge the gap while she is unable to work.
Melissa is the heart of our family, and our main goal is to let her focus entirely on her recovery and our children without the constant stress of how we will pay for the next tank of gas or the next bill.
Any contribution you can make—no matter the size—will go directly toward keeping our family stable during this fight. If you aren't able to donate, please consider sharing this page with your network. We are so grateful for the community of friends and family standing behind us.
Thank you for your prayers, love and support.
