Lucy’s story update- May 2025
We have now been fighting this awful disease on and off for 7 years.
At the end of March we discovered that the combination of medication we have been using since September 2024 was no longer keeping Lucy’s disease under control.
Since then we have been fighting hard to try and find a suitable treatment for her. Sadly, once again we are forced to look outside of the UK.
A trial in Madrid had proved to be a promising option for Lucy and after an initial visit over there this week we have decided to proceed with treatment. This is absolutely her best option at the moment
All we can do now is pray
Lucy’s story - September 2024
At the end of last year (2024) we were very fortunate enough to secure the DFMO drug here in the uk ( see updates below) and so at the moment we are not having to travel overseas at least.
4 months into this treatment and Lucy is thriving. Her scans are stable.
Whilst there is no requirement to travel currently ( which we are all benefitting from). We are all too aware that if scans change we will need a plan B which we know we can’t get in the UK. Whilst we are not currently travelling to the USA we are conscious that this might change. The funds so far will be such a help to us as and when we need it. So thank you all for your ongoing support. We are so grateful.

Lucy’s story - background
My name is Carrie and I am
Mum to the amazing 15 year old Lucy
In 2018 our world changed forever when 8 year old Lucy was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma- an aggressive childhood cancer. It took 2.5 years of gruelling treatment including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy to finally clear her of this awful disease.
She’s our whole world. In order to give her every chance of a future without cancer and with the help of friends, family and strangers we raised the money needed to take Lucy to the USA for treatment to help keep her in remission.
Almost 2 years later, during our very last visit to the USA we discovered Lucy had relapsed. Our world fell apart once again….
In the UK there is no set treatment protocol for relapsed Neuroblastoma and the chances of beating this disease become even smaller. Despite her wonderful NHS team’s efforts, none of the treatment we tried was working and Lucy’s cancer continued to spread.
However , in the USA , Lucy’s Oncologist put together a treatment plan to once again try and help her beat this beast. We felt we had to give it a try. With the full support of our UK team, we flew to Philadelphia.
Three months into this new medication Lucy is thriving and scans are much improved. She’s experiencing minimal side effects and as much as possible she is a typical teenage girl. Enjoying life, loving school and being with her friends.
We are raising funds to help us with the remaining costs of continuing the travelling to the USA so that Lucy can access this treatment for the next 2 years. Visits are every 3 months initially and then all being well, drop to 6 monthly. Our costs includes flights and car hire. Whilst we managed the funds from our original campaign very carefully, we have reached the point where we have exhausted the funds available but still have at least 2 more visits to the USA for treatment. This is where we need your help….
There is no cost for the medication currently ( although this may change in the future and we need to be prepared to have to pay).
Any donation however large or small is much appreciated.
Lucy is an incredible young lady. She is 6 years into her cancer journey but she’s extremely positive about life. She wants to be a Pediatric Oncology Nurse and work with children like herself going through a cancer journey. She loves fundraising and recently got her whole school involved in fundraising to support young people with cancer. She wants to fulfill her dreams.
Please help us to ensure Lucy has the bright future she so deserves.
We love you Lucy. ❤️
Any funds raised but not required will be set aside to help support Lucy with any medical needs she may have in the future as a result of the long term side effects of treatment.
Please donate if you can - any donation large or small will contribute to the outstanding costs. We are so grateful for your help!
