Hi friends, my name is Sean Bessette, and today on behalf of my cat Cooper I’d like to humbly ask for your help with his emergency medical expenses.

Villain to many, hero to few, and friend to all, Cooper is a 4-year-old Lovecraftian creature who has become a notorious presence in the east side of Cleveland since his rescue in the summer of 2021. To know him is to love him. Despite his size, he has the biggest personality of any cat I’ve met. Overbearingly affectionate, tenaciously playful, always up for a conversation, constantly seeking to be helpful & involved, and quirky to no end - Just like his namesake, these are a few of the ways I’d describe the little rascal who saved my life.

This week, Cooper’s life needed saving.

After a rapid decline in health, the kind people at Oak Tree Veterinary Hospital identified a gastrointestinal blockage which had caused Cooper’s stomach to become distended - so much so, it had flipped over inside of him. The doctor mentioned he had seen nothing like it in his career. If the blockage had not been identified & removed, the distension would have cut off a major blood vessel and become life-threatening. Coop was taken into emergency surgery on October 8th. The operation was successful, but expensive, especially in addition to the blood tests and X-ray fees.

This year has already come with plenty of hurdles - emergency car repairs, a burglary, personal medical expenses, student debt, and moving expenses. (We were in the middle of packing while this happened!) The added financial burden of this medical emergency is simply too much for me to handle. I’d be immensely grateful for any and all help while Cooper recovers and I try to get back on my feet. The goal total of this fundraiser does not even cover the total cost of the surgery.
