My name is Cherry Stallings and I am raising money for my husband, Jim Jungjojann, to go to an Acute Rehab to continue to heal. Jim is a disabled Veteran, Army Natural Guard: Vietnam era., born 05/27/1949. He has been through so much. In 1991 he was hit head-on by a teenager who had been drinking and driving, resulting in a Severe Traumatic Brain Injury. That began our journey discovering that there was " life after Head Injury". Jim came back from that injury, as no one thought that possible, not the same, but with a new normal, that he accepted without ever feeling sorry for himself or saying "why me", and every day waking up with a smile on his face.
In November 2020, he caught Covid-19, which devastated his health. Before Covid, he could walk with a walker, speak slowly and eat with some challenges. We could get in the car and go for a drive or other outings. He had choices in what his life was about. Now, he is on a Trach and a feeding tube, bed-bound. At that point, I had to resign from my job as Jim needed round-the-clock care. He has had in-home PT sparingly, as VA is very frugal with any type of rehab if your injury is not service-related: once a week Physical Therapy will never help him recover to where he was before. He wants his life back! I have begged not only VA, but Aetna, his Medicare Advantage Plan carrier, and have met with a resounding "NO" each time I have spoken with them. I have tried to reason with both agencies but was shut down every time. We have paid our Insurance premiums to Aetna for years and now, when Jim needs the benefits we have paid for, what we get is the run-around. This money will go toward Physical Therapy, Ocupational Theraphy and Speech Therapy in this Acute Rehab. There is only one Acute Rehab facility in Las Vegas that will take someone with an "open Trach" and they are out of network with our insurance. Thirty years ago, when Jim had his head injury, we made a decision that this was not what was going to define our life together. Our decision was that we were not going to be "victims", but that we would be "victorious" and that is what we have done. We have made a life that has been joyful and full of gratitude. Please help him. We have run out of options. Our life's theme has been "we will never give up: and we will never surrender." Thank you whoever you are that may read this whether you are able to donate or not. Your kindness will forever be appreciated, as you WILL play a valiant part in giving Jim his life back.
